Can You Really Change Your Life? Yes - But Only If You Know This
Did you know that 92% of women who start a new goal—whether it’s weight loss, budgeting, exercise, dating, or anything else—don’t follow through?
That’s a real number.
And if you've ever started something full of motivation only to quit two weeks later, I want you to hear this:
You're not broken.
You're not lazy.
You're just in the growth zone.
Let’s talk about what that really means—and how to become one of the 8% who make it through.
Why You Start Strong (and Then Want to Quit)
It always begins with excitement, right?
You find a new program. You plan every detail. You’re finally going to get it right this time. 🙌
The first few days? Total breeze. You think, “This is easy! I’ve got this!”
But then...
🌀 Your muscles ache.
💳 Your budget gets tight.
😩 Your motivation disappears.
Suddenly, everything feels hard. You start wondering if maybe this isn’t the right plan or the right time. Your brain says, “Maybe I’m just not cut out for this.”
Here’s the truth: That moment is not failure. That moment is GROWTH.
The Lobster Lesson (Yes, Really)
Lobsters grow by shedding their old shell and forming a new, larger one.
But in between those shells, they’re totally exposed and vulnerable. They literally can't grow without that uncomfortable, scary in-between phase.
Guess what? Neither can you.
Real change always requires shedding old thoughts, habits, and identities. It feels uncomfortable because your old “shell” doesn’t fit anymore—but your new one isn’t ready yet. That space in-between? That’s the growth zone.
And most women turn back right there. But not you. Not anymore.
Your Brain Thinks You’re in Danger
When you hit the growth zone, your brain will freak out.
It’s wired to keep you safe—and safe, to your brain, looks a lot like staying exactly where you are.
So it throws out thoughts like:
“This is too hard.”
“I don’t feel like myself anymore.”
“Maybe this isn’t for me.”
“Everyone else is better at this than I am.”
These aren’t truths. They’re just thoughts. And they don’t get the final say.
The 4-Step Growth Zone Strategy
Here’s the path to staying in the growth zone long enough to get the change you want:
1. Expect the Dip
You will feel worse before you feel better.
This doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong—it means you’re growing. When it gets hard, remind yourself: This is what growth feels like. I’m doing it.
2. Anchor to Your Why
Why did you start this in the first place?
It’s not just about the number on the scale or the money in the bank. It’s about how you believe those changes will make you feel—confident, secure, desired, joyful.
I once took dance lessons—not because I wanted to dance, but because I wanted to feel confident enough to show up and enjoy life fully. That’s what I was really after.
What are you really after? Anchor to that deeper “why.”
3. Tell Yourself the Truth
When your brain serves up your worst thought (mine is “I’m not good enough”), it’s not telling you the truth—it’s pulling from the same tired script it always has.
Recognize it. Name it. And replace it.
Try this instead: “This is what growth feels like. I’m doing it.”
Simple. True. Powerful.
4. Seek and Welcome Support
Just like a lobster is vulnerable without its shell, you are vulnerable in the growth zone.
Your brain will want to hide—keep your goals private so no one knows if you fail. But the truth is: vulnerability + support = strength.
Let someone in. A coach. A friend. A group of like-minded women.
Don’t do this alone.
Growth Feels Like Hard—But It Leads to More
I know what it’s like to start strong and then want to give up. I’ve done it too—diet programs, workout plans, dating efforts, spiritual goals, even learning to quilt! 😂
But real growth? It’s not about never wanting to quit.
It’s about knowing what to do when you hit the dip.
Here’s what I want you to remember today:
You don’t have to be one of the 92%.
You can be one of the 8.
You can stay in the growth zone and build the life God designed you for.
