Is It Time to Let the Dream Go?
Have you ever found yourself wondering if it's finally time to let go of a dream?
Maybe you've prayed about it for years.
Maybe you've worked toward it for years.
Maybe you've hoped, waited, and believed...only to find yourself asking a question you never thought you'd ask:
"Is it time to let this dream go?"
For some women, that dream is marriage.
For others, it's becoming a mother, changing careers, starting a business, improving their health, repairing a relationship, or creating a life that looks different than the one they're living today.
Whatever the dream is, there often comes a point when hoping begins to feel exhausting.
You wonder if you're demonstrating faith—or simply refusing to accept reality.
It's one of the hardest questions we face because it isn't just about the dream.
It's about whether we can trust ourselves to know the difference.
Before You Decide, Ask a Different Question
When we're wrestling with a major decision, we naturally seek advice.
We talk to family.
Friends.
Mentors.
People we trust.
But before you decide whether it's time to let a dream go, I'd encourage you to ask one more question:
Who is making the decision?
Not who you're asking for advice.
Who, within you, is answering the question?
Is it the woman you are today?
Or the woman you were five or ten years ago?
That distinction matters more than we often realize.
Are You Listening to Yesterday's Version of Yourself?
Think about the thoughts that often surface when you're discouraged.
"I've always struggled with this."
"I've already tried."
"People like me don't..."
"At my age..."
These statements all have something in common.
They're looking backward.
They're using yesterday's experiences to make today's decisions.
The problem isn't that you're remembering your past.
The problem is allowing an older version of yourself to interpret your present.
The woman who was more afraid.
More uncertain.
Less experienced.
Less wise.
She's no longer the woman you are today.
Don't Throw Away Your Past—Harvest It
Your past isn't something to erase.
It's something to understand.
Instead of asking:
What did I lose?
Ask:
What did I learn?
Instead of asking:
Why didn't this work out?
Ask:
Who did I become because it didn't?
Instead of asking:
How did this set me back?
Ask:
How did this prepare me?
Those questions change everything.
Because the very experiences you're using as evidence that it's time to give up may actually be the experiences that have created a woman wise enough to know whether it's time to let go—or keep going.
Don't discard your past.
Harvest it.
Because when you harvest your past, you seed your future.
You Have Become Someone Worth Listening To
One of the greatest gifts of living isn't that life becomes easier.
It's that you become wiser.
You've learned things.
You've survived things.
You've grown in ways you may not even recognize.
That means something.
It means you've become someone worth listening to.
Not because you have every answer.
But because you're no longer the woman you once were.
A Simple Exercise
One exercise I love is called A Letter From My Future Self.
Imagine a future version of yourself writing a letter back to the woman you are today.
Then ask her three simple questions:
What would she tell you to stop doing?
What would she tell you to start doing?
What else might she say?
You don't need to force an answer.
Just listen.
Sometimes the woman you're becoming can help you see what the woman you are today is simply too close to recognize.
Before You Let the Dream Go...
Maybe this isn't really about deciding whether to let the dream go.
Maybe it's about making sure the right woman is making that decision.
Your past has been preparing you.
Your future is calling you.
Today's decision gets made by the woman standing between the two.
So before you let the dream go...
make sure you're asking the right woman.
Because you've become someone worth listening to.
